the power of saying no
Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should : why women must rethink the default yesFor many women, saying no doesn’t come easily, whether in business, work, or personal life. The expectation to be helpful, accommodating, and always available is deeply ingrained. But constantly saying yes can lead to overcommitment, resentment, and even burnout. In employment, this often translates to taking on extra tasks that don’t advance careers through activities that benefit others but don’t advance…

tackling an insidious ‘ism’ in the workplace
Global recruitment company Indeed was forced to apologise over a description of career age stages on their website. It described age 45+ as "late career" and 55+ as "in decline" and rightly kicked up a storm, generating column inches and outrage. But ageism in the workplace is endemic.

sexism in the afterlife : let’s rethink legacy

why the cat eye was a game changer
Cleopatra may not seem an obvious role model for younger women today, but there’s an important lesson in her life story because, it turns out, she achieved much of that thanks to the guidance of her earlier sisters. It makes her an early exemplar for inter-generational knowledge sharing and mentoring by women in the workplace. And, indeed, for succession planning in family businesses.

time to challenge preconceptions on ageing
If things don't change, they'll stay as they are... Yes, that's ridiculous at first reading, a joke my father used to make, but it gets to the heart of the problem when it comes to ageism in the workplace. It's the orphan 'ism', left behind and ignored, and unless we change how we think, feel, and act towards age and ageing, nothing will ever improve.

Why women may not be happy at work: so many valuable findings to digest, attitudes to embrace and actions to initiate from this commentary looking at issues faced by women in the workplace. For starters, flagging up that there is no lack of ambition on the part of women is a crucial myth-buster.

we need a new strategy for parenting and flexibility
The challenge of combining parenting and the workplace will not go away: it simply reinvents itself. Flexible working is certainly important, if we want to retain the huge resource that young mothers represent to the workplace, but it’s only one part of a multi-faceted equation. For Gen Z’ers flexibility is a right for all, not a ‘perk’ for parents.
