Overcoming procrastination – just do the thing :
We all do it. We tell ourselves we’re working on something important when, in reality, we’re circling around it — planning, tweaking, reading, making lists. But as that great (and slightly painful) checklist reminds us, none of those things are actually doing the thing. And the longer we stall, the harder it becomes to start.
Procrastination isn’t just laziness; it’s often fear in disguise. Fear of getting it wrong, of making the wrong decision, of putting something out into the world before it’s ‘perfect’. Research even suggests that procrastination is linked to emotional regulation rather than time management — our brains avoiding discomfort rather than avoiding work. The best way to break the cycle? Start before you feel ready. Imperfect action is always better than perfect inaction.
One powerful way to move past procrastination is to connect with others. Studies show that accountability— whether through peer support, mentoring, or even just saying out loud what you plan to do — significantly increases follow-through.
Conversations spark clarity, and seeing others take action can be the push we need to do the same. That’s why communities like Lumin exist: to provide the motivation, encouragement, and gentle nudges that help turn thinking about it into doing it.
So, if you’ve been hesitating on something, take this as your sign. Stop circling, stop overthinking—just do the thing. And if you need a sounding board? You know where to find us.
